Team Bethlehem is where you start your school journey here with us at St Mary’s Papakura, just like Jesus started his journey on earth when he was born in Bethlehem. Our team has five classes of Year 0 and 1 tamariki, who are being welcomed into our Catholic school and learning what it means to be part of God's big family through the NZ RE Curriculum, Tō Tātou Whakapono. We follow Structured Maths and Literacy approaches that we have carefully integrated with our Healthy Active and Playful Learning philosophy.
Tamariki are engaged in their learning through hands-on playful learning where they are encouraged to explore and discover. At St Mary’s we have a rich, child centred approach to learning. We believe that tamariki learn through fun, self directed exploration and discovery, using hands-on experiences that promote curiosity and collaboration. Our Loose Parts play and Discovery afternoons also enhance the children’s development of the Key Competencies of the NZ curriculum, (Managing Self, Thinking, Relating to others, Participating and Contributing, Using Language Symbols and Texts). We value partnerships with whānau and aim to empower our ākonga to flourish in all aspects of their learning.
